Kids Help Phone\u2019s Counsellor in the Classroom Program promotes the discussion of mental health and well-being among young people. The program offers two modules: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Classes that participate will learn about mental health, Kids Help Phone\u2019s services and how \/ where to seek support. If you\u2019re an educator for students in Grades 4 through 12 in Canada, keep reading for more information about this free<\/strong> program<\/strong> and how to register.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Kids Help Phone’s free Counsellor in the Classroom program makes it easy to support mental health literacy within your Grade 4-12 classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n What are the goals of the Counsellor in the Classroom Program?<\/h2>\n\n\n

    The program offers two modules: Mental Health and Help-Seeking (Grades 4-12) and Stress and Anxiety (Grades 9-12). These modules are independent of one another and can be completed in any order based on your classroom needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Each module is divided into two parts. The first part includes classroom activities led by the educator. The second part includes a 45-minute phone or video call conversation between the class and one of Kids Help Phone\u2019s professional counsellors. The program will help students:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • gain a better understanding of mental health and well-being<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • identify how they can seek support<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • feel more confident in seeking support<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • foster a space that feels supportive and destigmatizing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      It broke the ice in accessing support through the Kids Help Phone. My students had a lot to say about mental health and well-being. This program was an excellent way to open those lines of communication. The counselor who spoke with us was warm, welcoming, and made the students feel comfortable.       \n What happens after I register for the program?<\/h2>\n\n\n

      Upon confirmed registration in the program, educators will be invited to select a session date for their call with the counsellor and will receive a digital program package including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        \n
      • an educational resource booklet for the appropriate grade and module, including:\n
          \n
        • lesson plans<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • preparation activities on mental health, seeking support and addressing barriers<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • optional extension activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • debrief suggestions (e.g. what to do after the call with a counsellor, etc.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • a glossary of terms for young people<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • worksheets for youth<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • an overview of Kids Help Phone\u2019s services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • digital promotional materials <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          \n What happens during the virtual call with a counsellor<\/h2>\n\n\n

          Here\u2019s what you and your students can expect during the session with a counsellor:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \n
          1. The counsellor will share about themselves, Kids Help Phone, our services and the youth we support.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          2. The counsellor will prompt a conversation about the topic of the session \u2013 for example, exploring why it’s hard to seek help sometimes, discussing coping strategies for when you’re experiencing stress or thinking about who \/ where you can turn to for support when you need it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          3. The counsellor may speak to common questions they\u2019ve been asked by young people in previous sessions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          4. The call will invite student participation and there will be an opportunity for the class to ask the counsellor questions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n
